Ages 11–13
The Writers’ Workshop

Developing craft, confidence and an individual voice across poetry, fiction and experimental forms.

The Studio

A focused class for serious young writers, modelled on the workshop culture associated with the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

Our approach
What makes us different?
London has plenty of holiday courses and after-school clubs. The London Young Writers Academy offers something harder to find: consistent weekend workshops in which young writers can develop over time.
Rather than asking every child to follow the same term-long topic, Sarah adapts prompts, reading and editorial guidance to each writer’s age, interests and level. Children still gain the energy of writing together, while receiving the close attention they need to become more confident, ambitious and independent.

The founder
Sarah Fletcher
Sarah is a working writer and creative-writing teacher with more than a decade of experience working with young people. Her writing has appeared in The Washington Post, New Statesman, The Spectator, Poetry Review, Poetry London, The White Review and elsewhere. She has taught in schools, universities, summer programmes and specialist workshops.
Available during the week
One-to-one writing mentorship
Sarah is also available during the week for individual mentorship: creative enrichment, school-entry writing, competition submissions or a longer personal project. Sessions are shaped around each young writer’s interests, ability and goals.
